About Vedic Astrology
DiAstrologer is built exclusively on the Parashari system of Vedic astrology — the most widely practiced and textually documented tradition in Jyotish Shastra.
Understanding Your Kundali
A Kundali (birth chart) is a map of the sky at the exact moment and location of your birth. It shows the positions of 9 Grahas (planets) across 12 Bhavas (houses) and 12 Rashis (zodiac signs).
The Lagna (ascendant) — the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at birth — forms the foundation of the entire chart. It determines the house layout and personalizes all predictions.
Beyond the main birth chart (D1), Vedic astrology uses 15 additional divisional charts (Vargas) prescribed in Parashari texts. Each Varga reveals a specific life area: D9 (Navamsha) for marriage, D10 (Dasamsa) for career, D60 (Shashtiamsha) for past-life karma, and so on.
DiAstrologer computes all 16 standard Shodashvarga charts using NASA JPL DE440 ephemeris with Lahiri ayanamsa for precise sidereal positions.
The Dasha System
Vimshottari Dasha is the primary timing system in Parashari astrology, spanning a 120-year cycle. It divides life into planetary periods (Mahadashas), sub-periods (Antardashas), and further subdivisions down to 5 levels.
Each Dasha period is ruled by a planet, and the results depend on that planet's placement, strength, and lordship in your birth chart. A well-placed Dasha lord brings favorable results for the houses it rules; an afflicted lord can indicate challenges.
DiAstrologer calculates Dasha periods from the Moon's exact Nakshatra position at birth, with precision to the Prana Antardasha (5th level), and cross-references results with transit positions for timing predictions.
Yogas & Doshas
Yogas are specific planetary combinations that indicate notable life patterns. Examples include Gajakesari Yoga (Jupiter in Kendra from Moon — wisdom and fame), Budhaditya Yoga (Sun-Mercury conjunction — intelligence), and the powerful Raja Yogas (combinations of Kendra and Trikona lords).
Doshas are affliction patterns that indicate challenges. Manglik Dosha (Mars in houses 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 12) affects marriage compatibility. Kaal Sarp Dosha (all planets hemmed between Rahu-Ketu) creates recurring life obstacles. Kemdrum Dosha (no planets adjacent to Moon) affects emotional stability.
Critically, Vedic astrology also recognizes cancellation rules. For example, Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga converts a debilitated planet into a source of great strength when specific classical Parashari conditions are met. DiAstrologer checks all cancellation conditions before declaring any dosha.
Our Classical Source
Every rule in DiAstrologer is traceable to authentic Parashari Vedic astrology — the classical system founded by Sage Parashara covering Grahas, Bhavas, Vargas, Dashas, Yogas, Doshas, Muhurta, compatibility matching, and remedies.
Our database contains 6,348+ Parashari rules spanning natal chart interpretation, predictive techniques, Prashna (horary), electional astrology (Muhurta), and marriage compatibility.
We do not use Lal Kitab, KP System, BNN, Tajika, or Western astrology methods.
